Bhimavaram (AP): Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitaraman on Thursday inaugurated the Rapid Sand Filter Plant at Matsapuri village in Veeravasaram mandal in WG district.
The Finance Minister unveiled the plaque to formally inaugurate the Rapid Sand Filter Plant which was constructed at a cost of Rs 1.25 crore to provide clean drinking water to the villagers.
Nirmala Sitaraman asked an eight-year-old Yasheswini to cut the ribbon to inaugurate the plant. Later, Nirmala Sitaraman saw the photo exhibition in the premises and the drinking water tank located at the place. She planted a coconut sapling in the premises.
The Rapid Sand Filter Plant would provide purified drinking water to Matsapuri and Godavari Adiandhrapet villages. The Plant was constructed with the funds released from the MPLAD.
Speaking on the occasion, the Union Finance Minister said some villages were not getting purified drinking water and the newly constructed water plant would supply purified water to some of the villages.
She expressed displeasure over the officials for not making arrangements to supply drinking water from the Plant to five more villages. She asked state finance minister Buggana Rajendranath Reddy and MLA Grandhi Srinivas to make arrangements to supply the purified drinking water from the plant to the villages soon. The Matsapuri villagers thanked Nirmala Sitaraman for providing them protected drinking water by constructing the water plant.
AP finance minister Buggana Rajendranath Reddy, WG district Collector P Prasanthi, AP Finance special chief secretary S S Rawat, Finance secretary VV Satyansarayana, SP U Ravi Prakash and other officials were present.
