New Delhi: The Congress which has been spearheading the Opposition’s protest against the Narendra Modi-led government at the Centre over the Adani Group issue on Tuesday categorically said that they want the Parliament to function but the government is not making any effort in this regard.

Referring to Opposition’s demand to allow a discussion over the Adani issue in Parliament, Congress General Secretary in-charge of Communications Jairam Ramesh said, “No effort from the government to break the ‘logjam’ caused by its refusal to allow Opposition to even raise its demand for a JPC (Joint Parliamentary Committee) into the PM-linked Adani Maha Mega Scam.”

“Opposition wants Parliament to function, but ‘Modi Sarkar’ is afraid,” the Congress MP said in an apparent reference reference to the Adani issue.

Opposition parties including Congress has been demanding to the Centre to either constitute a Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) or set up an inquiry under the Chief Justice of Supreme Court to look into the Hindenburg Research report on Adani Group.

The report had alleged that Adani Group had engaged in stock manipulation and accounting fraud scheme over the course of decades.
