PM Modi holds bilaterals with leaders of Caricom nations

Georgetown/New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi held bilateral meetings with leaders of many Caricom member countries on the sidelines of the second India-Caricom Summit in Georgetown, Guyana.

The PM held bilateral meetings with the leaders of Dominica, Trinidad and Tobago, Suriname, Barbados, Antigua & Barbuda, Grenada, St. Lucia, The Bahamas.

In posts on X, PM Mod said of his meetings:

On his meeting with the PM of Saint Lucia Philip J. Pierre, he posted:

“Met the Prime Minister of Saint Lucia, Mr. Philip J. Pierre. We discussed ways to boost trade linkages. We also talked about enhancing ties in sectors like healthcare, pharma, energy, sports and more.”

On the meeting with the PM of Grenada Dickon Mitchell, he posted:

“The Prime Minister of Grenada, Mr. Dickon Mitchell and I had a fruitful meeting. We agreed to strengthen bilateral cooperation in IT, healthcare, education and agriculture. Also appreciated his efforts in hosting the 2nd India-CARICOM Summit.”

On the meeting with the PM of Antigua and Barbuda Gaston Browne, he posted:

“Had a very good meeting with Prime Minister Gaston Browne of Antigua & Barbuda. There is immense potential to further boost bilateral relations, notably in sectors such as trade, Fintech, renewable energy and climate change. Also thanked him for Antigua & Barbuda’s support to

International Solar Alliance and CDRI.”

On the meeting with the PM of Barbados Mia Amor Mottley, he posted:

“Had a very good meeting with Prime Minister Mia Amor Mottley of Barbados. Our talks covered areas such as science and technology, healthcare, education, climate change and agriculture. I am grateful to the Government and people of Barbados for conferring the Honorary Order of Freedom of Barbados Award. This honour is dedicated to the people of India.”

The PM of Barbados, posted: “Prime Minister Modi and I held talks following the CARICOM-India Summit on Wednesday. The meeting focused on institutional reforms, economic collaboration, and the empowerment of the Global South.

“Key discussions included political support for reforms, potential collaborations in the pharmaceutical industry, and the idea of establishing a Caribbean bank. Action items were identified to explore these opportunities further.”

PM Modi posted on his meeting with the PM of The Bahamas Philip Brave Davis:

“Had a very good meeting with the Prime Minister of The Bahamas, Mr. Philip Brave Davis. During our talks, we reviewed the full range of bilateral ties between our nations, notably in trade, culture, climate change and more.”

On his meeting with the PM of Trinidad & Tobago Keith Rowley, he posted:

“Had a very fruitful meeting with Prime Minister Dr. Keith Rowley of Trinidad & Tobago. We talked about how to diversify trade linkages between our nations. Areas like science, healthcare, education, renewable energy and agriculture offer great potential for cooperation. It is a matter of immense joy that Trinidad & Tobago has adopted UPI. The signing of the MoU relating to agro and food processing is also a welcome step.”

On his meeting with the President of Suriname Chan Santokhi, he posted:

“Strengthening friendship with Suriname!

“Met President Chan Santokhi in Georgetown. We reviewed bilateral relations in sectors such as trade, technology, energy, telemedicine and more. We also discussed ways to further improve cultural as well as people to people ties. India will keep supporting various development related initiatives in Suriname.”

On the summit with the Caribbean leaders, he posted:

“With CARICOM leaders at the 2nd India-CARICOM Summit in Guyana.

“This Summit reflects our shared commitment to strengthening ties with the Caribbean nations, fostering cooperation across diverse sectors.

“Together, we are working to build a bright future for the coming generations!”

The MEA spokesperson posted:

“PM @narendramodi co-chaired the 2nd India-CARICOM Summit, along with PM Dickon Mitchell of Grenada, the current chair of CARICOM. PM thanked President Dr. Irfaan Ali of Guyana for hosting the Summit.

“The summit saw participation from Heads of Government & FMs of the Member States.

“To further strengthen the India-CARICOM partnership, PM put forward a 7 pillar proposal i.e C.A.R.I.C.O.M
