The 71st Miss Universe competition is being organized in the USA’s New Orleans city, but this time, not much of a craze can be seen for the same. The competition’s ratings are dwindling for the last 5 years now, and the Miss Universe organization has been amidst controversies with the allegations of sex scandals, body-shaming, discrimination, and corruption. The TV viewers of the Miss Universe competition held last year in Israel had remained limited to less than 26 lakhs, whereas till 5 years ago, more than 60 lakh viewers used to watch the same.

In 2015, the show was sold by Donald Trump, and now, the show is owned by Annie Jakaphong, CEO, JKN Global, which is a Thai media company. This is the first time that the show’s ownership is in the hands of somebody else other than an American. Jakaphong, who is also a transgender, is now mulling over beginning a reality show from the Miss Universe contest. She has said that the show will be a mix of American reality shows Runway and American Idol.

In the 13-episode show, the lives of the Miss Universe contest participants will be filmed, along with the lives they lead after winning the title. Annie added that participants from the LGBTQ community should also take part in the contest. On the other hand, the representative of Albania from the 2021 Miss Universe contest, Ina Dajci, stated that the contest should be banned as it is a fraud. She added that only the body is focused on in the event.

The winner of the contest will be declared on Sunday.
