SP MLA Ramakant Yadav sentences to 4 months imprisonment

Jaunpur (UP): Samajwadi Party (SP) MLA from Phulpur Pawai seat Ramakant Yadav was sentenced to four months imprisonment along with a fine of Rs 7,000 on charges of rioting and causing hurt by a local court in Jaunpur district here in Uttar Pradesh on Tuesday, prosecution sources said.

Prosecution sources said that in 2019 a clash took place in Kotwali area of the district in which some persons got injured. “After the incident, a case was lodged against Ramakant Yadav for rioting, unlawful assembly, voluntarily causing hurt and intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of peace,” they said.

Prosecution sources said that the trial was being held in the MP-MLA court after the police filed the charge sheet in the case. “After hearing the arguments of both the sides, Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate-III Swetsa Chandra held Ramakant guilty and sentenced him to four months imprisonment along with fine,” they said.

SP MLA and former MP Ramakant was brought to the court from Fatehpur jail amid tight security. Elaborate security arrangements were made inside the court due to his appearance.
