Fatehpur (UP): Train traffic on Delhi-Howrah route was thrown out of gear after 25 bogies of a freight train derailed near Ramwa railway station in the district here in Uttar Pradesh on Sunday, railway sources said here.

Railway sources said that several important trains including Kalka Express, Neelanchal and Jodhpur-Howrah were stranded midway causing inconvenience to the passengers. “The incident occurred when the driver on a Prayagraj bound train from Kanpur applied an emergency brake after a herd of animals came on the track. This led to the derailment of 25 bogies,” they said.

Superintendent of Police Rajesh Kumar Singh said that nearly one dozen trains were stranded at different railway stations. “In the wake of problems being faced by the passengers, water and food are being supplied from Fatehpur city. Work to remove the derailed coaches is going on a war footing,” he said.
