Sultanpur (UP): A wanted criminal carrying a cash reward of Rs 1 lakh on his arrest was killed in an encounter with the Special Task Force (STF) of Uttar Pradesh police in Dehat Kotwali area of Sultanpur district in the wee hours of Friday, a police spokesman said.
The spokesman said that acting on specific information the STF team surrounded notorious criminal Vinod Upadhyaya in a rural area and challenged him. “In a bid to flee from the spot, Vinod opened fire on the STF team and was injured in retaliatory firing,” he said.
The injured criminal was taken to the district hospital, where doctors declared him dead. Vinod Upadhyaya had a history of committing crimes in Ayodhya and Gorakhpur districts. 35+ cases were lodged against him, including murder and attempt to murder.
