Incidents of students being beaten by their teachers in government and private schools of Rajasthan have been common but two recent incidents, one each from a government and private school, have resulted in the eruption of new tensions across the state.
On Thursday, the first incident was reported from a government school situated in Sardarshahar’s Derajsar, concerning a female teacher and a female student. The second one took place in Sikar’s Shrimadhopur, where a teacher and his pupil indulged in a fight in a private school. Cases have been registered against both the student and his teacher.
The case was registered by a 16-year-old student, studying in class 12th, who belongs in Dausa’s Lalsot. According to Shrimadhopur police, the student’s paternal uncle has accused his nephew’s teacher of beating his student without any reason in the assembly area of the school, at 8 AM in the morning. Following which the teacher gave wrong information to the school’s principal, after which the principtal too, beat the student and later, the director asked the student to remove his clothes in the assembly area itself and beat him with a pipe.
On the other hand, the teacher, Mukesh Mitharwal, has alleged that when he called out the student for misbehaving in the assembly area, the student started kicking and punching him. He added that he was slapped by the student. While all this was being done by him, he slipped and fell on a stack of bricks and stones, kept for construction work. He accused the student of substance abuse as well.
While the teacher said this, the student told the police that the teacher had beaten him without any reason and in order to defend himself, he had hit the teacher once.
Ringas Deputy Kanhaiyalal has said that investigation is being carried out as per both the teacher’s and the student’s complaints.
