International drug racket operating in jails of Punjab

International drug rackets are thriving inside the jails of the state of Punjab. Another Pakistani boat was recently caught entering Indian waters by the Gujarat ATS and Coast Guards. 40 KGs of heroine was recovered from the boat, which costs Rs. 200 crores. When the ATS interrogated the boatman and two people who had arrived to collect the consignment, it was revealed that the smuggling’s roots were attached to the Kapurthala Jail of Punjab.

A culprit of Nigerian origin, who is locked up in the Central Jail had ordered the consignment over a phone call, from a man named Abdullah, who is from Pakistan. The police are now also confirming whether satellite phones are being used for such activities. This consignment was supposed to reach Punjab in October, and the drugs were to be supplied in Punjab and other parts of the country.

Reportedly, major portions of the consignment were ordered by smugglers from Punjab, out of whom some are locked up in the jails of Punjab. There are some Nigerian criminals locked up in the Jalandhar-Kapurthala Central Jail, who have been caught with large consignments of drugs, and these smugglers recruit new members into their network, from among other inmates, and as soon as they are let out on bail, they completely indulge in drug trafficking. On 30th August, a Nigerian woman had reached Dhilwan to deliver a consignment.

It has also been found out that jail employees are hand in glove with these smugglers and help them by sending mobile phones inside the jail premises. When a smuggler is produced in court by the police, his accomplices provide him with individual parts of the mobile phone. After which the criminal hides the parts in different body parts, sometimes in the genitals as well, and takes them inside. On top of this, they are able to use the mobile phones despite the jammers installed inside the jails.
