Los Angeles: Super boyband BTS has received two American Music Awards (AMAs) for the fifth year in a row.

The global K-pop sensations won the favorite pop duo or group and favorite K-pop artist during the 2022 AMAs held at Microsoft Theater here in the US on Sunday.

The South Korean group was first named AMA favorite social artist in 2018.

BTS beat big names Coldplay, Imagine Dragons, Maneskin and OneRepublic, to win its fourth consecutive honor in the favorite pop duo or group category since 2019.

With this, the septet created record for most wins in AMA history since 1974.

It also was chosen as the winner in the new category — Favorite K-pop Artist category. BTS beat BLACKPINK, Seventeen, Tomorrow X Together and TWICE.

Last year, BTS rewrote K-pop history by becoming the first Asian act to win artist of the year, considered the top award. It also was among the megastars from across the musical spectrum to perform during the awards ceremony, yonhap news agency reported.

BTS did not attend the ceremony this year. BTS maknae Jungkook performed at FIFA opening ceremony the soccer anthem “Dreamers” on Sunday, while V is in South America, Jimin-Yongi are preparing their solos. Namjoon’s solo INDIGO releases December 2, while Jin is set to join the army.
