UP: Youth wanted in girl’s murder arrested

Mirzapur (UP): A criminal wanted in a murder case was arrested after an encounter with the police from Adalhat area of Mirzapur district here in Uttar Pradesh, a senior police officer said here on Tuesday.

Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) Mahesh Atri said that a minor girl was murdered and her body was thrown in a moat four days back. “A report was lodged against Vikas, a resident of Khagaria district in Bihar, who was absconding after the incident,” he said.

He said that acting on a tip off when Adalhat police surrounded Vikas, he opened fire on the police party and sustained bullet injury in his leg in retaliatory firing. “He has been arrested and admitted to the hospital in police custody,” he said.

The ASP said that Vikas was having an affair with the girl. “Four days back the accused along with accomplices called the girl, killed her and later threw the body in a moat from where it was recovered by the police. Vikas carried a cash reward of Rs 50,000 on his arrest,” he said.
