Rajnath briefed over Tawang incident

New Delhi: Defence Minister Rajnath Singh was briefed by Army Chief Gen Manoj Pande on Tuesday morning on the recent clash between Indian and Chinese troops at Yangtse at a high level meeting at his residence.

NSA Ajit Doval, CDS Gen Anil Chauhan, Defence Secretary Giridhar Aramane, Foreign Secretary Vinay Mohan Kwatra and other officials of the Defence Ministry were also present during the meeting.

Sources said that the minister was briefed on the recent incident at Yangtse in Tawang Sector of Arunachal Pradesh, where the Indian Army soldiers contested the PLA troops in a firm and resolute manner on Friday.

Singh was also briefed on the overall security situation along the Line of Actual Control during the meeting.

The Indian Army had earlier said that the face-off led to minor injuries to few personnel from both sides, however, both sides immediately disengaged from the area.

As a follow up of the incident, Indian Army Commander in the area held a Flag Meeting with his counterpart to discuss the issue in accordance with structured mechanisms to restore peace and tranquillity, Indian Army said.

Informing about the incident, officials also said that there are certain areas of differing perception along the LAC in the Tawang Sector wherein both sides patrol the area upto their claim lines.

Both Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha were adjourned as they assembled on Tuesday amid Opposition demands to suspend the business and discuss the incident.
