Why is Govt “running away” from JPC probe, asks Cong on Adani issue

New Delhi: The Congress on Tuesday launched a fresh attack at the BJP-led government on the Adani Group issue, and asked why it is “running away” from a Joint Parliamentary Committee probe over the same.

Several Opposition parties including Congress have been demanding a JPC or an inquiry under the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court to look into the Hindenburg Research report over Adani Group.

The report alleged that Adani Group had engaged in stock manipulation and accounting fraud over the course of decades.

Addressing a press conference at the party headquarters, Congress General Secretary in-charge Communications Jairam Ramesh said, “Today morning, the Home Minister (Amit Shah) has said the government has nothing to hide on the Adani matter. If there is nothing to hide, we want to ask why it is running away from the JPC’s demand (from the Opposition over the matter ).”

“It (government) had not even allowed to mention about this in the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha. When Rahul Gandhi ji and Mallikarjun Kharge ji raised this matter in Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha respectively, but they were expunged. If there is nothing to hide, then accept the demand of the JPC,” the MP said.

He added, “There should be an investigation on how much benefit Adani has got in the last 10 years.”

The statement of the parliamentarian comes a day after the Centre agreed to the Supreme Court monitored Committee in the Adani-Hindenburg issue.
