4 killed, over 20 hurt in cracker unit blast in TN

Chennai: At least four people were killed and more than 20 others were injured in an explosion at a cracker manufacturing unit at Kuruvimalai village in neighbouring
Kancheepuram district of Tamil Nadu today.

Reports received at the police headquarters confirmed that four people were charred to death in the incident. The deceased included the cracker unit owner Sudarsan (31).

Police and fire service personnel rushed to the spot and shifted the bodies of the deceased to the Kancheepuram government hospital for post mortem.

The injured are also being treated in the hospital. As several of the injured sustained serious burns and were said to be in a critical condition, the toll is likely to increase,
reports said.

However, reports from Kancheepuram said seven people were killed in the incident and police were collaborating the details from the district.

The impact of the blast was such that the cracker unit was completely razed to the ground as a large quantity of crackers stored in it exploded.

The district collector, senior police and revenue officials visited the spot.
