PM flags off Chennai-Coimbatore Vande Bharat Express, launches other projects

Chennai: Prime Minister Narendra Modi flagged off the new Vande Bharat Express train between Chennai and Coimbatore and other projects, today.

After inaugurating the New Integrated Terminal of Chennai Airport upon his arrival, he flagged off the train at PuratchiThalaivar Dr MGR Central Railway Station.

From the airport, he reached INS Adyar by a helicopter from where he reached the Central Railway Station by road, during which BJP workers gave him an enthusiastic reception by organising various cultural events all along the route, which was tastefully decorated.

Connecting Coimbatore, called the ‘Manchester of the South’, with the capital city of Tamil Nadu, Chennai, the new Vande Bharat train will reduce the travel time of passengers of both the destinations by nearly an hour as the train could be operated at a speed of about
130 kmph.

The new Vande Bharat will benefit students, IT professionals, traders and businessmen, and provide fillip to the textile industry, various textile and industrial units in and around Coimbatore, Salem, Erode and Tiruppur districts.

The train has key features like Divyang friendly washrooms, seat handles and seat numbers in braille scripts.

It has modern amenities like LED lights, 32 inch information and infotainment system and charging poins beneath every seat.

It also has 360 degreee rotatable seats for better comfort, diffused LED lighting, automatic temperature sensor and special AC duct for even air distribution and offeres enhanced passenger safety with indigenous automatic train protection syste “Kavach’, CCTV cameras
in all coaches and automatic sliding doors.
