Currently in Rajasthan, piles of garbage can be seen across streets as the sweepers from the Valmiki community have gone on an indefinite strike as they want their demands to be fulfilled by the state government led by Ashok Gehlot. The demand being a 100 percent reservation for the Valmiki community for the posts of sweepers in the state! This demand comes at a time when the community has already received a 50 percent reservation for the same. At the same time, the cleaning staffers belonging in other communities have not taken part in the strike.

The Valmiki sweepers have stated that they will not give their rights to anyone else because they have been doing this work for generations now, and now people from other communities are trying to snatch their right away.

Earlier, the application process for the posts of sweepers across the state of Rajasthan was to begin from May 15th, but now, after the pressure created by the Valmiki community, the Congress government has decided to postpone the recruitment on 13, 184 posts of sweepers.
