DRDO scientist arrested by ATS, suspected of espionage to Pak

Pune: In an a shocking information, a scientist of the Defence Research Organization (DRDO) in Pune has been arrested by the Maharashtra ATS.

It is suspected that the scientist was found in a honeytrap and provided information to Pakistan.

A DRDO scientist, who was working in one of the facilities of DRDO in Pune, has been arrested by ATS on the charges of espionage.

The arrested accused has been identified as PM Kurulkar, Director, Research & Development Establishment (Engrs.), [R&DE(E)], a premier Systems Engineering Laboratory of Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), Pune.

He was found to have had contact with the operatives of Pakistan’s Intelligence Agency through social media via WhatsApp messages, voice calls, video etc said Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) Friday.

The concerned persons are reportedly in touch with Pakistan Intelligence operatives through social media and WhatsApp from DRDO’s office in Pune. Officials have expressed suspicion that very sensitive information has been provided to Pakistan in terms of the country’s security. Interestingly, the concerned officer has been caught in the honeytrap with 6 months left for his retirement.

It has come to light that for the past few months, he was in touch with a woman related to Pakistan’s intelligence agency through mobile phone, ATS official added. He is suspected to have provided sensitive government information to Pakistan while in his post. A case has been registered against the accused scientist under various sections for providing secret information of government to other country.
