Akola: Maharashtra Rural Development Minister Girish Mahajan claimed that the clash between two communities in Maharashtra’s Akola city wherein one person killed, and several others were reported to be injured was possibly pre-planned.

Speaking to reporters here , Girish Mahajan said it is suspected that the incident was pre-planned and added that strict action would be taken against the culprits who hatched the conspiracy.

Mahajan also met the family members of Vilas Gaikwad(40) who was killed in the violence and expressed condolence.

He stated that Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has announced an assistance of Rs 4 lakh for the family of the person killed in the violence.

Besides, he assured all possible government’s support to the deceased’s family members.

It must be mentioned here that on Saturday night violence broke out in the sensitive Old City area in Akola over a religious post which went viral on a social media platform.

Members of the two communities pelted stones at each other and burnt a house, a shop and some stationary vehicles including two-wheelers, cars and autos in the areas during the violence.

One person was killed and nine others, including two policemen injured in the incident.

The police have detained 30 people in connection with the incident and deployed heavy security in the violence-hit areas.

Following the incident, the administration imposed section 144 of the Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC) in the area.

The situation is currently under control.
