Fabrication of evidence in 2002 Gujarat riots:SC extends interim bail of Teesta Setalvad till July 19, issues notice to Guj govt

New Delhi: Supreme Court in its order on wednesday extended the interim bail of social activist, Teesta Setalvad till July 19, and issued notice to Gujarat Government, seeking its reply on the plea filed by her, after Gujarat High Court rejected her regular bail in a case of alleged fabrication of evidence in relation to the 2002 Gujarat riots.

A two-judge bench of the Apex Court, headed by Justice B R Gavai and also comprising Justice J B Pardiwala passed the order and extended the interim bail of Teesta Setalvad till July 19, and issued notice ro Gujarat govt for its reply.

Teesta had to move the Supreme Court, after the Gujarat High Court rejected her bail and directing her to surrender immediately in the case.

Earlier the Supreme Court had stayed the Gujarat High Court order for a week and granted interim bail to Teesta.

The Supreme Court extended the interim bail of Teesta, after hearing her plea in which he sought regular bail in the case of alleged fabrication of evidence in relation to the 2002 Gujarat riots.

“We will list the case after two weeks. List the case on July 19, 2 pm for hearing. One hour for this side and one hour for the respondent. Issue notice (Gujarat govt), returnable on July 19. All the documents to be filed before July 15 after giving each other,” Justice Gavai said and made it clear that we want to decide and end it that day (July 19) only.
