On Thursday, July 20, the former WFI Chief, Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, was granted regular bail by a Delhi court, along with the federation’s assistant secretary, Vinod Tomar Singh, in the sexual harassment case filed by several female wrestlers.

Allowing the bail petition, Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (ACMM), Harjeet Singh Jaspal, directed the accused persons to furnish a personal bail bond of 25000 Rs each.

Several bail conditions have also been imposed on the accused, including that they shall not, directly or indirectly, induce the complainants or witnesses, and shall not leave the country without the court’s permission. The next date of hearing is July 28, for the scrutiny of documents.

During the hearing, the Court noted that the Delhi Police lawyer said that he was neither opposing nor supporting the bail application, and his submission was only that the same shall be dealt with provision of law. During the arguments, Advocate Harsh Vohra, who appeared for the complainants, stated that since Singh has political influence and was the head of the association of which these complainants are a part, therefore bail should not be granted to him.

On the other hand, appearing for Brij Bhushan Singh, Advocate Rajiv Mohan, said, ‘In a case where the prosecution does not require custodial interrogation, an arrest is not mandatory.’ Singh submitted that he will abide by all conditions and there was no threat to anyone. He said that he was ready to give an undertaking that no such incident will happen.
