Agartala: Union Minister of State Electronics & Information Technology Rajeev Chandrasekhar, in a letter to Rajya Sabha MP from Tripura and former Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb, informed that the central government published the National Strategy for Artificial Intelligence (AI) in June 2018 and proposes to develop an ecosystem for the research and adoption of artificial intelligence for all.
The minister’s letter came following Deb’s urgent public importance raised in the Rajya Sabha on July 27 regarding the need for the development of a national strategy for optimising artificial intelligence for Accelerating India.
Chandrasekhar said the government considered the next decade as ‘India Techade’, a decade full of technology opportunities for young Indians, and Al is a kinetic enabler of the trillion-dollar digital economy and innovation ecosystem.
“The government is taking all necessary steps in terms of policies and infrastructure to develop a robust AI ecosystem in the country. National Programme on Artificial Intelligence: “India AI a national programmeme on artificial intelligence, is being implemented with the objective of establishing a comprehensive programmeme for leveraging transformative technologies to foster inclusion, innovation, and adoption for social impact”.
The Union minister told Deb that to realise the vision of “Make Al in India and Make AI Work for India”, three centres of excellence for artificial intelligence had been announced in the Budget Speech 2023–24. India has been nominated as the Council Chair of the Global Partnership on Al.
The GPAI is an international and multi-stakeholder initiative to guide the responsible development and use of AI, grounded in human rights, inclusion, diversity, innovation, and economic growth”, he said, adding that the initiatives taken by the government would strengthen India’s capabilities as a global leader in creating digital public infrastructure by developing a robust ecosystem ensuring ‘Responsible Al for All’.
