Kolkata: Election Commission of India’s two senior deputy election commissioners Dharmendra Sharma and Nitesh Kumar Vyas on Monday held a review meeting with West Bengal’s Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Aariz Aftab and his deputy of West Bengal on special summary revision of electoral rolls and poll preparedness for 2024 Lok Sabha polls in the state, official sources said.
The district magistrates and other assigned poll officials are also taking part in the review meeting.
The review meeting, the first of this kind for next year’s 42-seat parliamentary elections, has a special focus on the revision of the voters’ list, the inclusion of names of new voters, the deletion of the names of deceased voters, and the cancellation of the forged EPIC (voter) cards.
The visiting ECI officials are also expected to get a first-hand report on the security aspects of the coming polls and also review the recent Dhupguri assembly poll held on September 5 as well as this year’s panchayat elections, which were held amid violence and the deaths of scores of people across the state, sources added.
The meeting also seeks to know the demands of the electronic voting machines (EVMs) as well as the condition of the used EVMs.
