Ankara: Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan discussed the situation in the Gaza Strip with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah Sisi over phone, and said Ankara will keep making every effort to ensure peace and the speedy delivery of humanitarian aid and medical services to Gaza, the Turkish leader’s office said.

“President Recep Tayyip Erdogan had a telephone conversation with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah Sisi.

During the conversation, the increasingly escalating situation in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, Israeli violations of human rights in relation to civilians in Gaza, and steps that could be taken to resolve the problem were discussed,” the office said.

“President Erdogan said it is unacceptable that Palestinians in Gaza are forced to leave their homes and that Turkey will continue to make every effort to ensure peace and the speedy delivery of humanitarian aid and medical services to Gaza,” it said.

On October 7, Hamas launched a surprise large-scale rocket attack against Israel from the Gaza Strip and breached the border, killing and abducting people in neighbouring Israeli communities.

Israel launched retaliatory strikes and ordered a complete blockade of the Gaza Strip, home to more than 2 million people, cutting off supplies of water, food, and fuel.

Thousands of deaths and injuries have been reported on both sides as a result of the escalation.
