Vilavancode Assembly seat declared vacant after Cong MLA Vijayadharani resigns upon joining BJP

Chennai: A couple of days after three-time Congress MLA Ms S.Vijayadharani resigned as Legislator after quitting the party and joining the BJP, the Vilavancode Assembly seat in Tamil Nadu represented by her has been declared vacant.

By-election will now be held for the seat in the southern Kanniyakumari district and it was for the Election Commission of India to decide whether to hold it along with the ensuing Lok Sabha polls or at a later date.

Official sources said the the Assembly Secretariat has declared the Vilavancode Assembly constituency vacant, following the resignation of Ms Vijayadharani.

A notification from the Assembly Secretariat said the Speaker had accepted her resignation and the seat had become vacant with effect from February 24.

Ms Vijayadharani had a few days ago quit the Congress and joined the BJP at New Delhi and later tendered her resignation as MLA after the Congress high command expelled her rom the primary membership of the party and the TNCC submitting a petition to Assembly Speaker M.Appavu seeking action against her under the Anti-defection law.
