New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday congratulated Simon Harris on becoming the youngest ever Prime Minister of Ireland.

In a social media post on X, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said, “Highly value our historical ties that are based on shared belief in democratic values. Looking forward to work together to further strengthen India- Ireland bilateral partnership.”

Simon Harris became Ireland’s new prime minister on Tuesday, at the age of 37, replacing Leo Varadkar after he abruptly quit last month, citing personal and political reasons.

Harris succeeds Leo Varadkar as Prime Minister of Irish following an 88-69 vote by the lawmakers.

After, the victory, Harris said via social media platform X that he was “deeply honoured” to become taoiseach and pledged to “work every day to realise the hopes, dreams and aspirations of all our people.”

Harris, formerly an education minister, ran unopposed to succeed Varadkar as leader of the center-right Fine Gael party.
