Bengaluru: As Bengaluru prepares for the General Elections 2024, several initiatives have been launched to facilitate the voting process for citizens.

Rapido, a popular ride-hailing platform, has announced free rides for senior citizens and differently-abled voters on April 26, the polling day, to encourage voter turnout.

In collaboration with the Election Commission of India (ECI) and Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP), Rapido will provide complimentary auto and cab rides to and from polling stations.

Voters can use the code ‘VOTENOW’ to avail themselves of these free rides, making it easier for them to participate in the democratic process.

Meanwhile, railway authorities have introduced special train services connecting Bengaluru with Mangaluru Central. These special trains aim to ease the burden of summer travel and facilitate smooth transportation for voters traveling between the two cities during the election period.

In addition, the Bengaluru Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) had extended its metro service hours on April 26. These trains will operate beyond the regular schedule, with services running until 00:35 am on April 27 instead of the usual 11:55 pm. This extension aims to accommodate the increased travel demand on the polling day, ensuring voters have ample time to reach their respective polling stations.

On the banking front, banks in Bengaluru will remain closed for the general public on April 26. This closure is in adherence to the Reserve Bank of India’s mandate, ensuring the banking sector’s support in facilitating the electoral process without interruptions.

With these arrangements in place, Bengaluru is geared up to conduct the Phase 2 Lok Sabha polls smoothly, prioritising voter convenience and participation in the democratic exercise.
