Tehran: High-ranking guests from almost 80 countries will honor the inauguration ceremony of newly elected Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian with their presence on Tuesday, Alaeddin Boroujerdi, a member of the national security and foreign policy commission of the country’s parliament, said on Monday.

Earlier, Russian President Vladimir Putin said that the Russian delegation at the inauguration would be headed by State Duma Speaker Vyacheslav Volodin.

“The presidential inauguration ceremony will be attended by 11 speakers of parliaments, four deputy speakers, six prime ministers, two presidents and a number of ministers from almost 80 countries. Such a level [of participation of high-ranking guests] for the inauguration ceremony deserves attention, since the presence is not mandatory and is based solely on respect,” Boroujerdi said, as quoted by the Mehr news agency.

According to the agency, the inauguration ceremony, which will be covered by 600 Iranian and foreign journalists, will begin at 16:00 local time (12:30 GMT) in the building of the Majlis (parliament) of the country, where the ninth president of Iran, according to Article 121 of the country’s constitution, will take oath in the presence of parliamentarians, members of the Council of Guardians of the Constitution (supra-parliamentary authority) and the heads of the judiciary.

Pezeshkian won the early presidential elections, two rounds of which were held in late June and early July after the death of President Ebrahim Raisi in a helicopter crash in May. A helicopter carrying Raisi, Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian and other officials crashed on May 19 in the north-west of the country. On the morning of May 20, Iranian Vice President Mohsen Mansouri confirmed reports of the death of the president and his delegation in the crash.
