New Delhi: Guru Govind Singh Indraprastha University (GGSIPU) inaugurated the 8th International Conference on Advanced Production and Industrial Engineering (ICAPIE) at the East Delhi campus here on Wednesday.

Around 297 research papers were received. After peer review and the screening, 190 papers were shortlisted, informed Prof. Ajay Singhroli, organising chairman of the event.

The “Book of Abstracts,” based on the research papers, was released on the occasion.

In his inaugural address, Padma Prof. Mahesh Verma said, “The ideas can make a breakthrough only when collaborations happen. Advance engineering is a buzzword today. Industrial engineering has undergone a landscape change to provide ample opportunities for jobs and better productivity. The strategic alliance should lead to sustainable development.”

The chief guest, Prof. P. B. Sharma, Vice Chancellor, Amity University, Gurgaon, said that a country prospers only when its demand and productions complement each other. In this era of climate change and environmental issues, the engineers need to rethink and design a manufacturing system to recycle the consumable items.

The two key elements of a supply chain management system should be environmental sustainability and restoring the heritage, he added.

Prof. (Dr) Ranganath M. Singari, Delhi Technical University (DTU), in the capacity of general chair, briefed about the ICAPIE and as to how the concept was initiated in 2015 at DTU.

Welcoming the delegates, Prof. P. C. Sharma, Director of East Campus, highlighted the courses and specialisation of the GGSIPU East campus.

He insisted on the efforts to develop ‘job creators, rather than job seekers.
