Hyderabad: South Central Railway (SCR) has launched a major track restoration operation between Intikanne and Kesamudram stations in Mahabubabad district after sections of the railway line were washed away by heavy rains on Saturday night.

As a result, several trains were cancelled or diverted, particularly on the Vijayawada-Kazipet route. Over the past two days, around 177 trains have been cancelled, nine have been partially cancelled, and 103 trains have been diverted via alternate routes to avoid delays in the affected section. The disruption caused significant inconvenience to passengers onboard halted trains.

Railway officials are making all possible efforts to restore normal rail services. Restoration work began at 1500 hours on Sunday, with materials like sandbags, cement, and gravel being transported from Kazipet in special trains.

Approximately 300 workers have been working around the clock to expedite the repairs, and nearly 50 percent of the work has been completed. If weather conditions remain favorable, the restoration is expected to be completed by Monday, with rail services likely to resume on Tuesday, according to railway officials.

SCR General Manager Arun Kumar Jain has been personally overseeing the restoration efforts, regularly communicating with the concerned Divisional Railway Managers (DRMs) to monitor the situation on the ground.

Emergency control rooms have been established at SCR Headquarters in Rail Nilayam, Secunderabad, and at the divisional offices in Secunderabad, Guntur, and Vijayawada, with a multi-disciplinary team of senior officers on duty around the clock.
