Iranian Prez to visit Iraq, Kurdistan region

Tehran, Sep 11 (UNI) Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian will visit Iraq on Wednesday, which will be his first foreign trip as president, an official said.

He is expected to meet a number of high-level Iraqi officials and sign cooperation agreements and security memorandums.

Pezeshkian will also visit Iraqi Kurdistan Region during the trip.

One of the main topics on the Iranian leader’s agenda in both Baghdad and Erbil, which is the administrative center of the region, is expected to be the implementation of the agreement between Iran and Iraq on the disarmament of Kurdish groups in northern Iraq.

The agreement was made in August 2023 with pledges to complete the disarmament by September 19, 2023, but the process is still underway.
