Major fire breaks out at Tata Electronics Private Limited in TN

Krishnagiri (Tamil Nadu): A major fire broke out at the Mobile Phone Accessories Unit of the Tata Electronics Private Limited (TEPL) factory at Uddanapalli near Nagamangalam in Krishnagiri District of Tamil Nadu early on Saturday.

Police said as soon as the fire was reported around 0545 hours, this morning more than ten firefighting vehicles from the Tamil Nadu Fire and Rescue Services department from Krishnagiri and Dharmapuri districts were deployed to extinguish the massive blaze.

The employees on night shift in the unit were evacuated safely.

However, four workers who reported suffocation after inhaling the black smoke were admitted to a private hospital, where their condition was said to be stable.

No casualty was reported so far.

Thick black smoke engulfed the unit and its vicinity due to the raging inferno.

Initial reports said the fire broke out at the mobile panel painting unit of TEPL.

Krishnagiri Superintendent of Police, P. Thangadurai, who visited the spot, said over 100 policemen were deployed to assist the fire extinguishing operation.

Meanwhile, in a press release, the TEPL said there has been an unfortunate incident of fire at our plant in Hosur, Tamil Nadu. Our emergency protocols at the plant ensured that all our employees were safe.

The cause of the fire is under investigation, and we will take necessary actions to safeguard the interests of our employees and other stakeholders, it added.

The TEPL, established at a cost of around Rs 5,000 crore, has been involved in the production of various accessories for iPhones with a workforce of around 4,500.
