Srinagar: Kashmiri separatist leader and Chairman of All Parties Hurriyat Conference Mirwaiz Umar Farooq on Monday condemned the killing of seven employees of an infrastructure firm in a terror attack, terming it against the tenets of Islam.

In one of the deadliest attacks on civilians in Kashmir in a long time, seven employees, including a Kashmiri doctor, were killed on Sunday evening in a terror attack on a workers’ camp near the tourist resort of Sonamarg on the strategic Srinagar-Leh highway. Five other workers were also injured in the attack. The attack has been widely condemned.

“Deeply saddened by the outrageous killings in Gagangir. Islam, like all religions, deplores such inhuman behavior. Every life is precious, and to be lost in this manner is extremely painful,” Mirwaiz said in a post on X. “ Another grim reminder of the unending cycle of violence and uncertainty we are suffering for decades. Pray to Allah for the speedy recovery of the injured and grant sabr (patience) to the families of those killed.”

Meanwhile, Apni Party President Altaf Bukhari describes the attack as an attempt to disrupt the prevailing peace.

“These labourers were here only to earn their livelihood to feed their families back home. The brutal attack on defenceless and vulnerable individuals reflects the worst form of cowardice. The perpetrators have displayed a complete disregard for human lives. This terror attack appears to have been carried out to disrupt the prevailing peace in Jammu and Kashmir,”: Bukahri said.

“Such senseless violence only brings misery and tragedy to the people, who have already endured immense suffering in terms of facing deaths and destruction over the past three decades. They cannot bear further bloodshed and destruction on this soil. After years of conflict, J&K needs sustained peace and stability, and the people desperately require solace and relief,” he added.
