Karnataka man held over provocative remarks on Waqf Bill

Davanagere: A man accused of making provocative remarks against the Waqf Bill-2025 in a video that recently went viral on social media has been arrested and remanded to judicial custody, police said on Tuesday.

According to them, the video was shot in Davangere city and widely circulated online, leading to the registration of a case at Azad Nagar Police Station against Ahmed Kabir Khan and others.

Following this, the main accused in the case, identified as Khan’s father, Mohammed Ali Jinnah Khan (32), a resident of Ahmed Nagar, Davangere, was apprehended at Ajmer in Rajasthan.

Police said the accused, designated as A1 in the case, surrendered after a case was registered. The investigation is being carried out under the supervision of Superintendent of Police Uma Prashant, with Additional SPs Vijayakumar M Santosh and G Manjunath, and City DySP B Sharan Basaveshwara, along with Azad Nagar Police Inspector Ashwin Kumar and his team.

The SP commended the officers responsible for the arrest – DySP Basaveshwara, Inspector Kumar, PSI Mohammed Altaf, and staff members Venkatesh, Krishna, Khaja Hussain Attar, Lokesh Guggari, Salahuddin, Malatesh, and Narendra Naik – for their coordinated efforts.

In a public advisory, the Superintendent of Police warned residents of Davangere district against posting or sharing any provocative content, hate speech, personal or religious abuse, anti-national messages, or objectionable comments on social media, particularly concerning the Waqf Bill.

Strict legal action will be taken against violators, the advisory added.
