Iranian, Egyptian FMs discuss Iran-U.S. talks, regional developments

Tehran/Cairo: Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi has held a phone conversation with his Egyptian counterpart Badr Abdelatty, exchanging views on the Iran-U.S. nuclear talks, the latest status of bilateral relations, and several regional issues, the Iranian Foreign Ministry said in a statement on Monday.

During the conversation, Araghchi briefed Abdelatty on the fourth round of the indirect talks between Iran and the United States, which was held in the Omani capital Muscat on Sunday and centered on Tehran’s nuclear program and the removal of Washington’s sanctions, according to the statement.

The latest round of Iran-U.S. talks follows the previous three sessions mediated by Oman — two in Muscat on April 12 and 26 and one in Italy’s Rome on April 19.

Abdelatty, for his part, reaffirmed Egypt’s support for the ongoing nuclear talks, hoping the talks would contribute to reducing tensions between the parties and strengthening regional security and stability, according to a statement by the Egyptian Foreign Ministry on Monday.

In the phone call, the Egyptian foreign minister also detailed the latest efforts by Egypt and other mediators to resume the ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, read the Iranian statement.

Addressing issues of mutual concern, the two top diplomats highlighted the necessity to immediately stop Israel’s attacks against Gaza, Lebanon, and Syria for peace and security in the region, the statement noted.
