Chandigarh: The Punjab Police on Tuesday arrested a person from Tarn Taran on the charges of spying for Pakistan and sharing sensitive information with Pakistan intelligence operatives and ISI about Operation Sindoor, police said.

DGP Gaurav Yadav said that action was taken on the basis of information received from the police’s counter-intelligence wing.

Accused Gagandeep Singh alias Gagan allegedly had been in contact with the Pakistan ISI and Gopal Singh Chawla, sharing sensitive information concerning Army movements during Operation Sindhoor.

Police said that investigations have revealed that he was engaged in sharing classified details, including troop deployment and strategic locations, posing a threat to national security.

Gagandeep Singh had been in touch with Pakistan-based Khalistani supporter Gopal Singh Chawla

for the past five years, through whom he was introduced to the Pakistani Intelligence Operatives (PIOs). He also received payments from PIOs via Indianchannels, police said.

Police said that they have recovered a mobile phone containing information that the accused shared

with the PIOs, as well as the details of over 20 ISI contacts.

“Thorough financial and technical investigations are underway to trace other linkages and establish the full scope of this espionage network,” DGP said, adding an FIR has been registered under the Official Secrets Act at PS City, Tarn Taran, and further investigation was in progress.
