Lucknow: After the Congress announced a protest against the Varanasi visit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the police placed its state president, Ajay Rai, under ‘house arrest’ in Lucknow.

Rai has alleged that the police are trying to suppress the voice of Congress workers. “Every worker will give a befitting reply to this,” he said.

Apart from this, Congress leaders from Sonbhadra have also been put under house arrest. Checking is being conducted at various toll plazas from Lucknow to Varanasi.

Taking to his official X handle, the Congress state president expressed his displeasure, “Sending police to stop us, suppressing the voice of workers – this will not stop the fight; this will not save the vote thieves. Every Babbar Sher worker of Congress will protest from street to street and village to village and will shout, ‘Modi, stop vote theft!”

Through this post, he raised the issue of ‘vote theft’ again, on which the Congress has been continuously attacking the central and state governments for some time now.

It may be noted that senior Congress leader Rahul Gandhi is also on a two-day visit to Rae Bareli. He reached Rae Bareli yesterday, where he faced opposition from Cabinet Minister in the Uttar Pradesh government Dinesh Pratap Singh and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) workers.

During this time, Rahul also raised the issue of vote theft in front of the media and said that the slogan “Vote Chor, Gaddi Chhod” has become the voice of the people and cannot be suppressed.
