At around 10 PM on Sunday, May 3, a 63-year-old Pushpa Devi, wife of Nakul Poudel, was brutally murdered by unidentified assailants inside her home in Charhajare, Kangpokpi district, Manipur. The cold-blooded crime has sent shockwaves among the locals, especially elderly individuals living alone.
Reportedly, the crime came into light when Pushpa Devi’s neighbours discovered her dead body the following morning, lying in a pool of blood in her own residence. It has also been reported that gold jewellery, cash, and other valuable items are missing from her house.
Police have began investigating the matter and the autopsy of the deceased was conducted on Monday, May 4, in the presence of a magistrate, with full videography; after which, the body was handed over to the victim’s family members for the last rites.
The victim was living with her mentally-challenged younger brother and had no immediate dependents.
While police probe into the matter is underway, the Manipur Gorkha Welfare Association has condemned the heinous crime, and has demanded immediate and thorough investigation into the case, leading to the swift identification and arrest of the culprits involved. The union has also demanded increased patrolling and surveillance in order to restore public confidence amidst the fear the crime has unleashed among residents.
