62 per cent discount on Rs 1499 online but MRP on product delivered Rs 1299: TATA CLIQ what is the game?

New Delhi: Imagine this! You purchase a product online on realising you are getting a discount of 62 per cent on the selling price of the product. When the product arrives at your doorstep, you are stumped that the MRP of the product is actual lesser than the selling price flashed on the online portal on which you got a discount.

This is exactly what happened to a resident in Noida, Dhananjay Jha, a researcher by profession, who sent us his unusual and unfair experience with TATA CLIQ.

On July 15, 2020, he purchased a Soopii 2.4 AMP Flat TPE 1m USB Cable to Lightning Charging Cable. The product list ID: MP000000006350150, Ordered ID:108548962. The price of the product online was Rs 1499. The discount offered on the product was 62 per cent. The price of the product was sold at Rs 559.

However when the product was delivered to his address. He noticed that MRP of the product was actually Rs 1299 because that was the label on the box.

“I have written an email to TATA CLIQ about my grievance and I have even put out a Tweet to get their attention. I have not got a reply from them yet. I am trying to understand why would the MRP on the box of the product be different from the selling price on the website. I am also concerned about the numerous customers who would have bought the same product but were lied about the MRP of the product and its subsequent discount. “

Maximum Retail Price or MRP is the HIGHEST price at which the product can be sold in India. This includes the cost of production, transportation, middlemen profit and also all applicable taxes. Shops or retailers can discount on MRP and sell it to attract customers. Remember that it includes the profit margin of retailers, transportation charges and preserving the product.

The more serious questions is whether TATA CLIQ’s selling price on most products is higher than its MRP.
