New Delhi: Asserting that people have rejected negativity in the latest state Assembly polls, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday urged the opposition not to vent the anger of defeat in the parliament session.
The BJP came up with spectacular performances in the polls in three Hindi heartland states, the results of which were declared on Sunday. The saffron outfit seized power from the Congress in Chattisgarh and Rajasthan, and retained its government with a two-thirds majority in Madhya Pradesh.
Having badly lost out in all three states, the only consolation for the Congress was victory in Telangana, where it unseated the ruling BRS..
Briefing the media before the winter season of Parliament, the Prime Minister said, “Instead of planning to vent out the anger of the defeat in this session, if we learn from this defeat and leave the trend of negativity and move ahead with positivity in this session, then the country will change the way it looks at them (opposition).”
He added that this approach would foster a healthier democratic environment and encourage constructive debate in the parliament session.
“Based on the election results, I would say that this is a golden opportunity for the Opposition. They must shed the negativity they have been carrying for nine years and proceed with positivity,” he added.
The Prime Minister also urged MPs to come with maximum preparation and participate in in-depth discussions on whatever bills are placed in the House.
“This temple of democracy is a very important platform for people’s aspirations and to strengthen the foundation of developed India” he added
Over the election results, PM Modi said the results of 4 States which came out yesterday are very encouraging….adding “These results are encouraging for those who are committed to the welfare of the common man of the country, who are dedicated to the bright future of the country”.
“The empowerment and concrete plans for building the bright future of the women, youth, farmers,and the poor of the country received immense support”, he said.
The Winter Session of Parliament has begun on Monday (Dec 4 ) and it will continue till December 22. The session will have 15 sittings spread over 19 days.
On Saturday, the Government convened an all-party meeting to seek cooperation from political parties to ensure the smooth functioning of both the Houses of Parliament during the session.
A total of 19 bills are scheduled to be taken up during the Winter Session, These include the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, the Bhartiya Sakshya Adhiniyam, the Chief Election Commissioner, and other Election Commissioners (Appointment, Conditions of Service and Term of Office) Bill, The Central Universities (Amendment) Bill, the Jammu and Kashmir Reorganisation (Amendment) Bill and the Provisional Collection of Taxes Bill 2023.
Among financial businesses, there will be a presentation, discussion,and voting on the first batch of Supplementary Demands for Grants for the year 2023-24 and the introduction, consideration, and passing of the related Appropriation Bill.
