Jammu: A Border Security Force (BSF) personnel suffered injuries when Pakistan fired unprovoked along the International Border (IB) in the Akhnoor sector here in the city outskirts.

BSF troops, however, effectively retaliated to the firing.

“At about 02:35 AM, an incident of unprovoked firing in the Akhnoor area from across the border happened,” said the BSF spokesman here on Wednesday morning.

He said that the firing was befittingly responded by the BSF.

“One BSF personnel sustained injuries in Pakistan firing while the troops are on high alert,” he said.

The Akhnoor sector in Jammu district will go to poll on October 1 as part of the three-phase Assembly Election starting from September 18 in Jammu and Kashmir.

The Phase 2 election will be held on September 25, and the counting will take place on October 8.
