Prez, VP greet people of Sikkim on Statehood Day

New Delhi: President Droupadi Murmu, Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar and other dignitaries on Tuesday extended their warm wishes to the people of Sikkim on their Statehood Day.

” Greetings to the people of Sikkim on Statehood Day! Sikkim presents a blend of modernity and unique traditions,” the President wrote in a tweet.

She said the North Eastern state has pioneered organic farming, enriched biodiversity and created a model for sustainable development.

” I was touched by the warmth of people during my visit of the state last year. My best wishes for the continued progress of Sikkim,” Murmu added.

Taking to the micro-blogging site, the VP wrote, “Warm greetings on the statehood day of Sikkim! Home to beautiful mountains and rich biodiversity, Sikkim is a land of unparalleled natural beauty.”

He said the state’s commitment to sustainable development, organic farming and cleanliness is truly inspirational.

“My best wishes for the prosperous future of the people of Sikkim,” Dhankhar said.

Extending his greetings, Union Home Minister Amit Shah in a tweet wrote, ”

Heartfelt wishes to the people of Sikkim on their statehood day. Sikkim is a ‘gem’ in North Eastern India with its hardworking people contributing profusely to the nation’s culture and economy. May the state continue to prosper in the years to come.”

Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge also took to twitter and wrote, “On Sikkim Statehood Day, we extend our warmest greetings to the people of this beautiful state, blessed with natural beauty and rich cultural diversity. We wish you unhindered peace, progress and prosperity.”

Former Congress president Rahul Gandhi in a tweet wrote, “The land of abundant natural beauty and a rich heritage, Sikkim represents the unity in diversity and the harmony India stands for.”

Best wishes to the people of the state on their statehood day, he said.
