USA-Bangladesh to hold defense dialogue soon in Dhaka

Dhaka: Bangladesh is going to sit in a dialogue on a defense agreement with the USA on Wednesday.

This defense dialogue between the two countries is going to be held in Dhaka as part of various levels of talks between the United States and Bangladesh.

The meeting is expected to discuss how Bangladesh can contribute to the Indo-Pacific region. Apart from this, there may also be discussions on the defense pact between Jisomiya and Aqsa.

According to related sources, Brigadier General Hussain Muhammad Masihur Rahman, Director General of Operations and Planning Division of the Armed Forces Department (AFD), will lead Bangladesh in the 10th Defense Dialogue with the United States.

The US side will be led by Brigadier General Thomas J. James, director of strategic planning and policy for the country’s Indian Ocean Command.

The dialogue will discuss regional and global security, cooperation between the two countries’ military forces, defense equipment, disaster management, peacekeeping and establishment, training, the exchange of military officials between the two countries, suppression of militancy, etc.

Establishing a free, open, inclusive, peaceful, and secure Indo-Pacific region is one of the priorities of the United States to reduce China’s influence. They want to ensure their presence and influence in the region at any cost. And to ensure this presence, democracy and human rights are two of their priorities at IPS.

According to sources, the meeting may discuss how Bangladesh can contribute to a free, open, inclusive, peaceful, and secure India-Pacific region from the US side. Bangladesh’s position in the Indo-Pacific region will also be discussed in the meeting.

Discussions on IPS will emphasise democracy and human rights in Washington. because it is currently the global priority of the United States.

Starting in 2012, the ninth meeting of the Dhaka-Washington Bilateral Defense Dialogue was held in the United States in mid-May last year.
