Mamata extends gratitude to each member of police force on Police Day

Kolkata: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Thursday extended her humble gratitude to each and every member of police force and their family members on Police Day.

Taking to twitter, Banerjee said, ” I extend my humble gratitude to each and every member of our police force & their family members on Police Day. ”

“You have dedicated your lives towards protecting the people of Bengal and on this special day, I salute your indomitable spirit. You will always be our pride!” she added.

The West Bengal government has relaxed the upper age limit for recruitment of constables to 30 years from the existing 27 years, Banerjee announced on Wednesday.

Banerjee, who holds the home (police, personnel and grievances) portfolio, said the decision has been taken to provide greater opportunity in the recruitment of police constables.

She said relaxation with respect to age and physical measurement in appointment on compassionate ground under exempted category would be provided to the next- of-kin of the police personnel who die in harness.

Relaxation in upper age limit upto 35 years and in physical measurement will be provided during promotion to the post of constable to civic volunteers, village police, home guards, National Volunteer Force and civil defence personnel.

Contractual drivers in West Bengal Police and Kolkata Police will be provided remuneration of Rs 15,000 per month in West Bengal Police and 13,500- per month in Kolkata Police respectively.

She said contractual drivers in West Bengal Police and Kolkata Police shall be given preference during selection of regular police drivers in West Bengal Police and Kolkata Police.

” Tomorrow is also Police Day. Like we celebrate Students’ Day on January 1, we celebrate our police force by observing Police Day on September 1. We have even created a committee for West Bengal Police Service officers so that their grievances are heard and resolved at the earliest, ” the chief minister said.
