Before the next Lok Sabha elections, 2.5 lakh people will be appointed in different departments of the central government, and a target of appointments has been set for the first six months of the financial year 2023-24. Currently, 9.79 lakh posts are empty across around 78 departments under the central government. As per sources, the Ministry of Personnel has set a target of filling 25%, which will be around 2.5 lakh posts, of the empty 979327 posts. Even after these appointments, 7.5 lakh posts will remain vacant across different departments.

Due to financial and some infrastructural reasons, it is difficult to make appointments to all the posts, and therefore, currently, it is being planned to appoint people on 25% of the posts. Sources have said that in the times to come, the strategy of merging some departments can also be used. And the objective behind this is to make sure that work is distributed equally among employees and officers.

Currently, there emerge complaints stating that the workload is more in certain departments, and in comparison, lesser in the others. Dure to the merger, there will be uniformity in the distribution of work.
