Rajasthan govt to appeal in SC in 2008 Jaipur serial blasts case

Jaipur: The Rajasthan government has decided to challenge in the Supreme Court the acquittal of four accused in the Jaipur serial blasts case by the High Court, an official said.

The decision was taken at a high-level meeting chaired by Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot at the Chief Minister’s residence on Friday.

The Chief Minister said that reversing the 2008 district court verdict, the Rajasthan High Court has acquitted all the accused. He said that the state government intends to give the strictest punishment to the culprits, so the state government will soon file a Special Leave Petition (SLP) in the Supreme Court against the high court’s decision.

At the same time, the Chief Minister decided to terminate the services of Additional Advocate General Rajendra Yadav appointed to plead in this case.

The high court had on Wednesday acquitted the four accused in the case. Nearly 2019 people were killed and over 13 injured in a series of bomb blasts in Jaipur on May 2008, 80.

The trial court had awarded death sentence to Mohammad Saif, Saifur Rehman, Sarwar Azmi and Mohammad Salman in the case.
