Kolkata: Opposition leader Suvendu Adhikari on Thursday urged Chief Secretary Hari Krishna Dwivedi to act proactively to combat flood like situation across West Bengal triggered by cloudburst in the neighbouring Himalayan state of Sikkim.

” Cloudburst in North Sikkim on Wednesday and subsequent flash flood in the Teesta river has ensued flood-like situation in the downstream districts of North Bengal; Kalimpong, Darjeeling, Jalpaiguri and Cooch Behar, especially those areas sharing border with Sikkim are the most affected, ” Adhikari said in his social media posting X.

” Even large areas of the Paschim Medinipur, Bankura, Hooghly, Purulia, Purba Bardhaman, Paschim Bardhaman, Birbhum, Howrah and Purba Medinipur are also submerged under flood waters.” the Nandigram legislator said.

He urged the state chief secretary H K Dwivedi to ensure that the administration functions in a vigilant and proactive manner.

” I would like to urge the Hon’ble @chief_west ; Shri H. K. Dwivedi (IAS) to ensure that the Administration functions in a vigilant and proactive manner,” the BJP leader said.

” Since (the) Chief Minister is missing in action, due to illness and State Govt is functioning from Camac Street instead of Nabanna; the main focus right now seems to be instigating violent agitation & vandalism in order to distract attention from the corrupt affairs,”
Adhikari alleged.

He said, ” So the Chief Secretary must step up and guide the Irrigation and Waterways Department to coordinate with the DVC constantly and monitor the Teesta river situation. He (CS) should also instruct the Principal Secretary; WB Disaster Management & Civil Defence Department; Dushyant Nariala (IAS) to provide immediate relief to the flood affected people, “Adhikari concluded.
