Jerusalem: Israel has decided to send several warships and a submarine to the Red Sea to monitor Iran’s activity in the region, Al-Hadath broadcaster reported on Sunday, citing sources.

On Sunday, Yemen’s rebel Ansar Allah movement, also known as the Houthis, said they would resume attacks on Israel, following the end of a week-long truce in the Gaza Strip. The Houthis then attacked two Israeli ships in the Bab al-Mandab Strait in the Red Sea, as confirmed by the movement’s spokesman, and a UK-owned merchant ship, the UK maritime trade authority said. However, Reuters reported quoting Israel Defense Forces (IDF) spokesperson RDML Daniel Hagari that two ships previously attacked by Houthis were not related to Israel.

Later in the day, the US Central Command said that Houthis used missiles and drones to attack three commercial vessels in the Red Sea. US destroyer USS Carney responded to distress calls of the attacked vessels and shot down three drones. At the same time, Washington believes that the attacks were organized by Iran, the command added.
