Tehran: Iran’s Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) said one of its members was shot dead in a “terrorist” attack on Wednesday in the southeastern province of Sistan and Baluchestan, media reports said.

The IRGC member, identified as Hossein-Ali Javdanfar, was assassinated after being shot in a “terrorist” attack on a road from Khash County to the provincial capital Zahedan when returning from a mission, IRNA quoted a statement by the IRGC Ground Force’s Quds Base in southeastern Iran as saying.

The statement added efforts were underway to identify and arrest those behind the attack.

According to IRNA, Javdanfar was an employee of the IRGC’s Salman base in Sistan and Baluchestan and a cultural expert of the elite force, who had been on a cultural mission in Saravan County.
