Kolkata: A team of the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) on Wednesday conducted a security survey of the RG Kar Medical College and Hospital where doctors have been on protest even as the hospital’s now-removed principal Sandip Ghosh faced questions of Central Bureau of Investigation(CBI) investigators for the sixth straight day.

The CISF team led by a deputy inspector general conducted a reconnaissance before deploying the force at the hospital as mandated by the Supreme Court, sources said.

“Let me do my job as we have come on an assignment mandated by the higher authorities,” the CISF DIG told the media.

In a related development, the Kolkata Police registered two cases against former principal of the college, Sandip Ghosh, for his alleged role in financial irregularities since January 2021. The complaint has been filed by the state government.

Meanwhile, the junior medics’ protest at the hospital

entered its 13th day. They are demanding justice for their murdered colleague and safety for doctors on duty.

The Apex Court on Tuesday appealed to the striking medics to resume work but to no avail.

The protestors noted that the accused in the horrific crime were still roaming free and they were scared to work under this condition.

Barring the emergency services, the junior doctors have refused to attend the OPDs. On Wednesday, they plan to march to the Health Secretariat at New Town to press their demand.

The Supreme Court on Tuesday sought a probe status report from the CBI by August 22.

The Calcutta High Court on August 13 handed over the murder and rape case to the CBI, raising questions on police investigation in the August 9 incident.
