Bengaluru: A criminal case has been registered against Karnataka BJP leaders, including MLC CT Ravi, Chalavadi Narayanaswamy, and 11 others, following a protest over the suicide of Bidar contractor Sachin Panchal.
The protest, which occurred at Madhavnagar Junction and Race Course Road in Bengaluru, saw BJP leaders demanding the resignation of Minister Priyank Kharge. The party claims Kharge was allegedly involved in Panchal’s death.
During the demonstration, the BJP leaders were accused of obstructing public movement and creating a public nuisance. In response, the police took suo motu action and detained the protesters, including Ravi, Ravikumar, Umesh Shetty, Shivakumar, Kiran Kumar Kasale, Harsha Hegde, Venkat, Karunakar, Nagesh, Prashanth, and Yadhuveer Rajendra Murthy.
The police also filed an FIR under several sections, including the Karnataka Open Places (Prevention of Disfigurement) Act, Sections 285 (offence of deception using tokens), 292 (public nuisance), and Section 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
The BJP leaders are further accused of pasting handbills on walls and obstructing public movement during the protest.
The incident has sparked a political debate, with the BJP demanding an inquiry into the allegations against Minister Kharge.
